I am Nala

Join us Thursday 1st of December at 6PM for the reading of the book "I am Nala" as well as a women’s circle on the thematic of Gender-Based Violence.

An anthology of seven stories written by Nala council, fierce African women whose identities and journeys led to their activism, politics and radical movements: « we wrote a book that our younger selves would have wanted to read but couldn’t find. We wrote about the women who inspire us, and the less traveled roads we have taken, unapologetically. »

Authors: Aya Chebbi, Rosebell Kagumire, Oluwaseun Ayodeji Osowobi, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Rose Wachuka Macharia, Yasmine Ouihrane and Kessy Ekomo Soignet. Edited by award-winning writer Dr. Novyuo Tshuma, author of House of Stone (2018), with the support of Rahel Weldeab Sebhatu, Soraya Addi, Syeda Re’em Hussain and Amina Alaoui Soulimani.

“Maman Colonelle” by Dieudo Hamadi (France/Congo)

Colonel Honorine, more commonly known as "Mama Colonel", works for the Congolese police force and heads the unit for the protection of minors and the fight against sexual violence. Having worked for 15 years in Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, she learns she is transferred to Kisangani. There, she finds herself faced with new challenges. Through the portrait of this extraordinarily brave and tenacious woman, who fights for justice to be done, this film addresses the issue of violence towards women and children in the DRC and the difficulty of overcoming the past war.

« Maman Colonelle » par Dieudo Hamadi (France/Congo)

La Colonelle Honorine travaille au sein de la police congolaise où elle est chargée de la protection des enfants et de la lutte contre les violences sexuelles. Alors qu’elle travaille depuis 15 ans à Bukavu, à l’est de la RDC, elle apprend qu’elle est mutée à Kisangani. Sur place elle se trouve face à de nouveaux enjeux. A travers le portrait de cette femme d’un courage et d’une ténacité hors du commun qui lutte pour que justice soit faite, le film aborde la question des violences faites aux femmes et aux enfants en RDC.
