Terms and Conditions of Services / French courses
The French courses organized by the French Institute of Nigeria are intended for people, aged 6 years and above. To register:
- New learners are to complete a registration form online (on the IFN website), at the reception desk or by email.
- If they have already taken French courses in the past, they must undergo an online assessment test. A fee is charged for this test. This fee is later deducted from the amount paid when they are invoiced for the course session for which they register.
- Learners receive a confirmation of registration by email upon completion of registration. The registration will only be validated once payment has been confirmed. If the payment is made by bank transfer, a period of 24 hours is allowed to receive a confirmation from the bank on the IFN email address. The registration is cancelled if no confirmation is received within this time.
All new learners must also pay the IFN membership fee (5000 naira for one year) which gives access to the media library, preferential prices at the IFN restaurant (-10%) as well as a free internet connection of one hour per day.) Anyone not registered for the course must pay an annual fee of N10,000 to become an IFN member and access these services.
A discount is granted after at least 3 consecutive enrolments in the course sessions (15% for the 4th enrolment, 20% for the 5th enrolment, 25% for the 6th and subsequent enrolments). Early bird discounts can also be granted by Management.
Learners can only re-register for the next level of the course if the assessment test carried out by their teacher at the end of their last session allows them to do so.
The IFN organizes scheduled classes, private classes and classes and in-company classes.
The IFN offers 3 types of scheduled classes:
- 6 weeks in person sessions (7 sessions per year)
- 9, 12, 18, 24 weeks in person CEFR level packages
- 8 weeks online sessions (5 sessions per year)
Private and in-company classes take place either in IFN, in companies’ premises or online.
The IFN cannot be held responsible for loss, theft or damage suffered by third parties, whatever the cause.
Students are responsible for the damage they cause and must bear the consequences of their mistakes under the conditions of common law of civil liability.
An invoice is issued at the start of the contract. On request, the IFN shall also provide learners/users with a certificate of enrolment for the course.
Any participation in an IFN session can only take place once payment has been made. The IFN calendar is the prevailing one. Any modification of this calendar can only be decided by Management.
External and private classes are subject to a specific organization and calendar. The courses can only start, in conformity with the established calendar, once payment has been made. Any changes to the timetable before the start of the contract must be agreed by Management and cannot be discussed directly with the teacher.
For all courses involving the teacher's commute, the costs are borne by the company or the course beneficiary. The amount which is stated on the invoice is fixed every year by the IFN price list.
Classes (at the IFN, in-company or online) are subject to a specific schedule negotiated in advance and included in the contract or in an amendment to this contract. The conditions of cancellation of one or more courses as well as any modification of this schedule are subject to specific conditions. Otherwise, any modification in the timetable or date of a group course in the company may be requested by the client, but it must be specified in writing to Management at least 48 hours in advance.
Classes are neither cancellable nor refundable except in the case of a professional imperative (with proof) or a major health problem on the part of the learner (with proof). However, once the registration period has begun, IFN will apply a 25% cancellation fee and no refunds will be made after one week of classes.
In the event of an impediment beyond the control of IFN (such as public calamity, war, revolution, strike, insurrectionary situation, flood, national mourning, traffic accident, epidemic), the learner or the organization having contracted with IFN, will not be able to claim reimbursement of the sums committed for the courses insofar as a distance learning alternative is proposed.
Group courses at IFN's premises or online cannot be modified in their dates, their schedule, or their periodicity. The price of the course is due in its entirety upon registration, whether or not the learner subsequently attends the course or not.
Timetables for private classes and in-company classes can be modified, subject to the teacher’s availability. Any request for timetable modification must be done in writing at least 48 hours in advance, otherwise the course will be considered as completed. The request for cancellation or postponement must be addressed to the IFN. Private or in-company credit hours are valid for 12 months starting from the first hour of class.
Exams: all registrations for a DELF/DALF exam are firm and final. Prices are set by the IFN and may be subject to change each year. IFN will not issue any refunds but may, for whatever reason, allow the candidate to take another session.
Registration for the TEF CANADA is firm and final. Candidates requesting a change of test date must pay a fee of 35 euros. This change cannot happen later than one full week before the exam date.
The prices of the courses are fixed by the IFN. The IFN reserves the right to change its pricing policy at any time. This change in pricing cannot be made for a course already paid for.
Payment is to be made at the reception or to the General Secretary by bank transfer or credit card. Cash payments are not accepted.
If the behavior of a person enrolled in the courses is detrimental to the activities organized by the IFN, the enrolment of this person will be cancelled and the sums paid will not be reimbursed.
Any complaints must be addressed to the IFN by e-mail or by physical mail within a maximum of one month after the end of the course. As far as possible, an amicable solution will be sought.
